I'm sorry I joked that I was hanging out with someone else. Saying that was thoughtless and cruel — I see now how it landed as a betrayal instead of a joke. I should have known it would make you feel insecure, disrespected, and worried about where you stand with me. I am truly sorry for causing you that pain. That comment was mine alone to own. I wasn't being clever or playful; I was careless with your feelings. I understand that trust is built on consistency and respect, and my words chipped away at that. I take full responsibility for letting a stupid joke speak louder than the love and commitment I feel for you. To make this right, I won't make those kinds of jokes again. I will be more thoughtful about what I say, especially about things that touch on trust or our relationship. If something I say ever makes you uncomfortable, I want you to tell me so I can stop immediately and learn from it.
