Lying and Making a Fake Promise

I'm so sorry I lied to you and made a promise I never intended to keep. I betrayed your trust, and I know that sounds small compared to how that feels for you — confused, hurt, and maybe wondering what else I won't follow through on. I own that completely. I didn't give you the honesty you deserved. I put my comfort ahead of your right to know the truth, and that was selfish. I know my words mattered to you and I broke something important between us. I also know apologizing won't fix it overnight, and I don't expect that. I want to make concrete changes so this doesn't happen again: I will stop making promises unless I can follow through, and when I need time to think or to be realistic, I'll say that instead of promising. I'll be fully transparent about what's true, answer any questions you have, and follow up on the small things I say I'll do so you can see consistency. If you want, I will also meet with a counselor to understand why I chose the easier route instead of being honest. I understand you may need space or time to decide what you want. I am ready to listen without defending myself and to do the work to rebuild trust if you want that. When you're ready, I want to hear how this felt for you and what would help you feel safe again.
