I understand how hurtful it must have been to be publicly minimized and forced to carry the blame. You looked exhausted and hurt, and I can see why you finally had enough. The fact that you forgave me in the moment even though you were hurting makes me ashamed and grateful at the same time. I don't want to keep causing you that pain. I will not make excuses—this is my problem to fix. Concretely, I will start seeing a counselor to work on my controlling impulses and learn healthier ways to communicate. I'll practice pausing before I speak, use a safe word or signal if I'm getting heated, and check in with you privately instead of putting you on the spot. When I cross a line, I will apologize right away and accept responsibility without deflecting. I love you and want to be the partner you deserve. I know that will take time and consistent change.
