Failing to Understand Your Feelings

I'm sorry I didn't understand how much my response hurt you and that I left you feeling heartbroken. I can see now that when you tried to tell me how you were feeling, I minimized it and didn't really listen — and that dismissal mattered. I take full responsibility for that. I understand that my reaction made you feel alone and unheard in a place where you should be able to rely on a friendly neighbor. That was wrong of me, and I'm truly sorry for causing you pain. I shouldn't have brushed off your feelings or offered quick reassurances instead of hearing you out. To make this right, I want to do better: I will stop interrupting and let you speak without trying to fix things immediately; I'll reflect back what I hear to make sure I understand; and I'll ask before giving advice so I don't assume what you need. If you'd prefer space, I will respect that, but if you'd like a chance to talk again, I am ready to listen — fully and without judgment. I value our relationship as neighbors and as people, and I don't want this to linger between us. If you're willing, I'd appreciate the chance to hear more when you're ready. If you need time, I understand and will wait. I'm here when you want to talk.
