I'm so sorry for the offhand comment I made that made you feel I don't trust you. Saying that was thoughtless and cruel, and I take full responsibility for hurting you. I shouldn't have questioned your intentions in that way or let my words make you feel small or accused. I understand this probably left you feeling defensive, hurt, and unsure about whether you can be open with me. That realization scares me because our friendship means a lot to me and I never want to be the person who undermines your confidence or makes you question your place in my life. I won't try to excuse it. I reacted poorly and spoke without considering how it would land. To make sure this doesn't happen again, I'll pause before I speak when I'm upset, ask questions instead of assuming, and be honest about my own insecurities instead of projecting them onto you. If you want, I will also show trust through actions — supporting your choices and checking in more thoughtfully. I care about repairing this and I'm ready to listen to how it affected you, whenever you're ready to share. I don't want to rush you; take whatever time you need. When you feel up to it, I'd really like to talk and work on rebuilding the trust I damaged.
